Bear with me, I may not finish this entire entry in one, well, entry. I
don't really feel like typing right now, but I need to post, cuz I
actually have stuff to say. But I am lazy.  So if I don't finish
tonight, I promise to get Paul to bug me to finish tomorrow.
So.
Job. I started not quite 3 weeks ago, now. It, well, wasn't what I
expected. At all. But. It was money. And a decent job, really.
Mindless, but at least somewhat fun (in my easily-amused sort of way),
and the days go quickly. And hey, it's money. More money an hour than
I've made in any job previous (waitressing jobs are iffy. I make more
an hour here, but I may have averaged more an hour at SnS on good
weeks. Prolly less on bad ones). And, as a huge plus, it isn't
stressful. And as an added bonus, I actually like almost all of my
fellow workers. They are fun, easy-going, and best of all, willing to
accept me into their family of workers, hehe. (aka they actually talk
to me, and don't make me feel like the newbie, even though I am). And
once I discovered the wonderful world of book on tape (we are allowed
to listen to cd's at work...one of my coworkers gave me the idea of
books on tape, and boy does it make the day go even faster! And I get
to "read" several authors I have been meaning to read for a while now,
but haven't gotten around to. It is great).
But none of that
is my news. My news is, on Wednesday, a woman I recognized but hadn't
been introduced to before (she comes in our room a lot and talks to my
supervisor about stuff, but she isn't in my department) came to my desk
and told me she and BoDee (my supervisor) wanted to talk to me. So I
went over to the desk, and she told me that they were looking to start
training me in scan (different, and better paying, department) next
week if I was interested still in moving up within the company. I made
it clear that I most certainly was. It is better pay, less mindless
work (according to what I remember of what she said, more computer
work, more memorizing and detail work, and more responsibility), and a
chance to move up. And I know that there are at least 2 managers here
who started where I just started and moved up this way. So that is
*really* encouraging. Looks like my job just turned into a potential
career. I have no idea how long I will stay here, really, but for now
it is a great opportunity. I like the working environment, I like all
the people I have met so far, I *love* working in an old pretty office
building downtown, so hey. Why not, right? I never really thought of
myself as the office worker type, but so far it is suiting me. We'll
see where it goes.
In other news, I freaking love my
city. I really do. I realize this anew almost every day. The public
transit is so awesome that it rocks my socks off (I would hate to have
to drive to my job, parking is outrageous downtown and traffic is
worse). The weather suits me. It rains, sure, but not much in the
summer (which is mostly cool and sunny), and right now at least it is
mostly just drizzly rain that comes and goes all day, not steady heavy
stormy rain like in Ohio and NC. (Tonight was most certainly the first
exception to that I have experienced, it poured). The people are much
more varied and, on the whole, friendly than any other city I have been
to. And the beauty - oh the beauty! I think cities are beautiful
anyways, even the dirty grimy ones, in their own way. I love buildings
and streets and people walking through them. I love the tiny bits of
litter and the pigeons. But Portland also has beautiful nature. Right
in the city! My view on the MAX (light rail train, my main form of
public transit) every morning is delicious. As you look to downtown
from the east, you see the big downtown buildings and such, but just
past them is a hill (in NC we would certainly call it a mountain) with
houses build cutely all over it. And on clear days, you can see both
Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. Not to mention all the other hills and
trees and stuff scattered through the rest of the city. *sighs* I
really do love it out here. I really truly do. For once, I feel like I
am really on the right track. I *know* that I am supposed to be here,
now, in this city. I know it, I feel it in my bones daily. I know that
probably sounds silly, but I can't really explain it any better than
that. It just is. As for what to do with my life here? Who knows.
Certainly I don't. But at least I know I am in the right place for it,
whatever it turns out to be.
Well, looks like I managed to type everything I meant to after all. Good on me.

well it depends on who "i" is. um...when i was little i used to love to start clubs. the most notable have been the "bee busters club" (we went around stomping on bees, then collecting them under one of the mats around the playground equipment) and the "crazy club"
